No one relishes the prospect of finding cockroaches in their homes so it’s good to be aware of what attracts them in the first place and, what we can do to prevent them.
Cockroaches are very resilient little creatures that multiply in alarming amounts. They also cause allergies, asthma and spread disease. They are attracted to dirty, moist environments so one thing that is very important to do for cockroach prevention is cleaning. A good place to start is the kitchen as this is where cockroaches are often found. Give the kitchen a thorough scrub which includes both behind and underneath appliances, even larger ones. This should be done on a regular basis. Keep the trash can clean with a tight lid on it. Food items should be kept in tightly sealed containers and, if you have pets, try not to leave their food out for long periods of time. Keeping the sink clean and dry will also help prevent them. Cockroaches also keep away from well-lit areas so, you may find it beneficial to leave some lights on at night.
It is not only the kitchen that you will find cockroaches. Remember that cockroaches are attracted to moisture so another enjoyable environment for them can be the bathroom. As much as you are able, keep the bathroom as dry and clean as possible. If you notice dripping taps or leaking pipes etc. anywhere in the home, fix the problem immediately. It’s also good to check for cockroach points of entry and seal them.
