There’s nothing like a warm and cozy fire during the cold months, however, not all homes have traditional fireplaces. A solution to this is a factory-built fireplace. So, what is a factory-built fireplace and what are some of its advantages?
Factory-built fireplaces are not part of a new home’s construction but are built separately in a facility and stored until needed. They are comprised of a firebox that is enclosed in a steel cabinet and has a steel chimney or flue attached. Although these types of a fireplace are used in newly constructed homes, they can also be fitted into most pre-existing homes.
The advantages of a factory-built fireplace are that they are lightweight, safe and efficient to use. Although the level of clearance will depend on the manufacturer and should be checked before installation, factory-built fireplaces generally come with very small safe-clearance requirements and can be installed close to wooden framing, this makes them a good option for any floor of the home.
It’s clear to see the benefits of this type of fireplace. One thing to keep in mind, however, is that while they have an excellent safety record, a factory-built fireplace still requires you to take all the fire-safety precautions that you would with a traditional fireplace. It’s also important to have a monthly check done of the chimney to make sure creosote is not building up inside it.
