It’s that time of year again when we start to transition to more outdoor living and with that comes cooking on the barbeque. As we like to emphasize often, safety in the home is very important so, with that in mind, we thought a few barbeque safety reminders would be helpful.
Starting up a propane grill after the winter months can be very dangerous if we don’t take time to check it over before using it. Parts of the grill and its connections may have started corroding or deteriorating over a long winter, check these areas and make sure there are no leaks or rusting parts. One of the ways you can safely check the grills connectors is to turn on the gas and spray a soapy mixture over connection points. If you see bubbles starting to form, it could be a sign that gas is escaping.
Charcoal grills also pose a health risk if we are not careful around them. It is possible that we could accidentally inhale too much carbon monoxide from these types of grill so make sure everyone is careful around it and that it is placed outside further away from the house.
Whatever type of barbeque you have, even an electric one, they pose a danger, especially as there are usually children and adults in close proximity to one when it’s being used. Always make sure there is someone keeping a close watch over the grill to prevent accidents. Yes, having safety in mind, even in a relaxed environment, will help ensure a fun summer in the backyard.
