Mold growth in a home, as we know all too well, causes many problems so doing all we can to prevent it from growing is vital for a healthy indoor environment. One area in the home where mold can become an issue is carpets. In this month’s blog, we are going to consider this subject a little further:
Did you know that a carpet can still have mold in it even if it is not visible? Mold will actually only become visible in carpets when it has become an extreme case, this highlights the importance of checking for mold. To do this, look at the underside of the carpet as well as the padding as this is a high-risk area for mold growth.
What kind of environment encourages mold to grow in carpets? As you probably are aware by now, mold thrives in humid and damp environments so, if you have carpet in areas such as the bathroom, basement, or any other place subject to humidity and moisture, it may be at high risk of mold.
If you find mold in a carpet, how easy will it be to remove it? This will depend on how much of the carpet has been affected by the mold. If it is only a small area and has only recently developed then you can probably just clean it to take care of the problem. However, if it is covering a large area, has been in a flood, or wet for longer than 24 hours, the carpet will likely need to be replaced. It is always better to remove the affected carpet than risk the health and wellbeing of the household.
